Just Say Hello

In 2019 it was reported that as many as 320,000 people were living on the streets in the UK alone and almost all of them suffered from mental health conditions. The idea behind the Just Say Hello campaign is to encourage people to smile or interact with homeless individuals rather than ignore them as they walk past. In contrast to other campaigns, these posters will be located in places deemed typically ‘homeless’, a doorway or shop front for example.

JSmith Fonts

In 2019, I was given a poem by a gentleman named Jamie Smith, a homeless man who sold poetry instead of begging for money. The poem speaks of his experiences on the street alongside the value of human interaction. This was my biggest inspiration for the Just Say Hello campaign, so I designed a typeface based on the letterforms of Jamie Smith and have used it to highlight the importance of just saying "HELLO".
