SDG Philanthropy Platform 2.0

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the global context for development has fundamentally changed. The world faces the greatest socio-economic shock in a generation, coming at a time of a severe inequality, ecological fragility, and growing distrust within and amongst our societies, making achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) even more urgent. The SDG Philanthropy Platform (SDGPP), a partnership between UNDP and WINGS is revitalizing efforts to catalyze and unlock philanthropy's potential by supporting all forms of philanthropy, social innovations, and financial tools. The SDGPP is now evolving and embarking on its next phase – SDGPP 2.0. to catalyze and unlock philanthropy's potential through multi-stakeholder partnerships to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs in the COVID-19 era. This partnership will ensure the SDGPP is inclusive and supportive of all forms of philanthropy, social innovations, and financial tools. $651 billion for the SDGs: The SDGPP has estimated that $651 billion in philanthropic giving for the SDGs could potentially be unlocked by 2030. Achieving this increased goal in SDG giving will not be an easy task and has already required significant efforts by many, including the SDGPP, to support policy, shift donor thinking, unlock capital and educate on the SDGs. Philanthropic dollars can contribute to funding and, if enabled in the right way, can unlock, and leverage additional funding sources, ensuring money is genuinely catalytic in nature. Innovative Approaches: Innovative approaches that SDGPP 2.0 is pursuing include a pooled fund and innovation call for Philanthropy Support Organizations (PSOs) to strengthen their ability to create bridges for multi-sector collaboration; creation of a financial instrument guide for philanthropy to aid in the understanding of the range of tools; working with SDG Innovation Labs to create a pipeline of philanthropic investment ready ideas; a Global Expert Advisory Committee; and, a campaign to tell the story of how much more can be achieved and gained by unlocking an additional USD 100 billion for the SDGs. Catalytic Outcomes; To unlock this philanthropic capital and achieve the SDGs, both that of institutional foundations and individual giving, the SDGPP is working at global, regional, national, and local levels to achieve the following catalytic outcomes: * An enabling environment in which an informed and knowledgeable philanthropy sector and governments understand each other and can work together across borders, in all countries * A unified, strong, and dynamic national/local level philanthropy sector that is community led and empowered by the local Philanthropy Support Organizations (PSOs) * Philanthropy that is more innovative in its approach by leveraging more sustainable and cutting-edge funding tools and community-driven solutions * $100 billion dollars in additional unlocked philanthropic capital to achieve the SDGs facilitated by the SDGPP Connect with us to find out how you can support. www.sdgphilanthropy.org
