1st time running a crowdfunding campaign and any recommendations for platforms or general advice is much appreciated, thank you!

  • Which platform to choose would depend very much for me on the area you're looking at. There are obviously platforms like Crowdcube and Seedrs if you're looking to find a company against shares.

    Or if you'll have a physical product at the end of it, something like Kickstarter can be good: I've seen it work for both film and books, although for books I might well use Unbound instead.

    If it's for something more amorphous, where funders aren't going to receive anything more than a warm, fuzzy feeling for handing over their cash, you've your pick of GoFundMe, Facebook Donate, etc.

    All platforms have some kind of fee structure, but hard to help beyond that without knowing more about the project.

    You also need a Comms plan for the whole period of fundraising, and if you know ahead of time about larger donors, talk to them about timing to join in to support that.
