Any suggestions for a member/database management tool with a payment portal (specifically for community groups and charities)? Thanks!

I volunteer for a community group/charity that is looking to start a paid membership model to help raise funds. i.e. you sign up to be a 'member' of the community group for £xx per year, and in return, you get special content, benefits etc. Any suggestions on a tool to manage the payments and memberships? Thanks so much!

  • Hi Brendan,

You could try some no-code tools. The software Memberspace lets you create a section of your site that is for members only. Here's a link to a site that explains a lot about no-code.

  • @Brendan McKnight sure you know already but to keep it simple, you can put a 'Members Area' page on a Squarespace site. Different features dependent on the SS package you have, and also the % transaction fee.
  • @Frank Holderness Hey Frank, thanks for the reply! I don't think they have specifics yet, it's just early days to see what tools/platforms are out there and what each offer. I don't think a dedicated online members area is needed. The 'membership' benefits might be things like a tote, discount to their events, dedicated newsletters etc. Hope that helps?

@Morven Maciver They're still working the specifics out and to see what the options are with the various platforms. The website is currently hosted with Squarespace, and the email list with MailChip. Thanks so much!
  • Assume as a community group that discounts many of the membership platforms as the monthly fees are £££.

    Questions…
    - Do you have different levels of membership/content, or just one payment and unlock/deliver content?
    - Do you have an existing website, if so what platform?
  • Definitely have some suggestions off the bat - but since it might make some options non-applicable, has it been decided how the member benefits are being delivered? i.e is this a website that you're looking to create a 'members area' for, or is the member content something like a special email newsletter + an exclusive Facebook group, etc?
