Any top tips for staying positive, productive & supporting yourself/others during lockdown?

If you can share ways you’ve been staying positive, productive and supporting yourself/others, that would be amazing! Here are my top tips:

At The Dots, setting up a ‘buddy system’ amongst the team has been brilliant for morale. Each week, everyone gets assigned a new buddy, who check in on each other and hang out virtually during the week over a virtual coffee or lunch.

Friday thank yous have also been amazing. Everyone on the team thanks someone for something they’ve done that week during our all team Friday afternoon meeting. We’ve done this for a while, but we now not only thank teammates, but also thank others doing good in the world – be it a family member who works at the NHS, a friend who took time to check in or a cause/petition/project we’d like others to support!

From a personal perspective, early morning walks along the canal have kept me sane! So to have Sunday roasts with my family over zoom and hugs from my hubby. God I miss hugs!

Please do share your tips below :-)

Let’s look out for each other!

  • Take days off like you normally would from job hunting/building skills. You need to have moments where you don't feel guilty for relaxing.
  • Use this opportunity to improve and learn more skills. Move your talents onto the world wide web. Connect and colloborate with people remotely. NETWORK!!! The internet is amazing and when used correctly the possibilties for us creatives are endless. We have a wonerful platform like The Dots to give us a jump start :-D
  • Taking breaks when you feel yourself getting distracted. It's easy to think you should be working from 8am until your Lunch break and then from then work until 6. But in reality you can't beat yourself up for wanting to get up and make a tea or even go for a walk.
On another note, running in the morning always get my mind ready to work.
  • Lots of walking, I’ve taken part in many insta live workshops and even done my own
  • So far, going for long walks and trying to connect with nature around me. Or cycling to de-stress and keep fit. Get me head around meditation. Journalling, and chatting to family and friends by whatever app available:) really miss hugs! Take care and stay safe.
  • How to keep active during self-isolation: https://remireports.com/self-isolation-how-to-keep-active-with-7-top-tips/
  • I'd say taking daily walks or whenever you can, and just take in nature. Spring cleaning helps to declutter & for keeping busy. I did a blog on this for those interested: angelacriteria.net/2020/04/19/8-ways-to-help-you-stay-productive-during-lockdown/ Stay safe :)
  • Doing exercise for 30 mins to 1 hour in my home helps me get into a more enthusiastic mindset. Eating a good breakfast, then getting dressed for the day ahead keeps me sane. Keeping lunch hour for yourself is important. I go for a long walk and get fresh air.
  • Have a routine and know what is work time and what is social time. If you can go for a walk at some point in the day then do it. Also organise your work and write everything down so you don't have to remember everything.
  • Get dressed as you normally would to go to work, wear shoes when working and don't force it - if you're struggling to be creative/ productive, no stress, drop what you're doing and pick it back up later on!
  • Plant seeds, because having something growing and thriving in your home is a little daily distraction and boost. Even an old egg box with herb seeds can be fun to tend and watch... and you get something to eat without having to face the queue at Tesco!
  • I've put together a Self-Care eBook with short exercises (no more than 5 minutes everyday) for my colleagues. Introductions to gratitude journaling, affirmations, mindfulness, meditation, etc.

I'm happy to share it with anyone in need of inspiration =)
Anybody, just PM me and I'll send it over.
Hoping that everyone is staying safe and sane.
  • Go outside. Live your life as you used to.
Danger is exaggerated, filter information till you reach the facts.
    Think for yourself, question authorities.

  • I honestly believe that to keep a constant schedule helps a lot! Keep your "old" schedule as much as you can and you will feel super productive.

Also I want to recomend to everyone TO COOK!! It is nice time to cook some nice food for yourself and get rid of all of that "take away" or "meal deals" that we are so used to eat when we are in a rush, and I wan to add that to learn a new recepie is so rewarding! I always say that problems are less stressful after a good meal :)

On the other hand I am using this time to re-connect with myself as a musician, I am studying with no rush, trying new technics or improving old ones. As I do not have anyone to guide me during my learning process I am understanding what I am doing so much that I feel I cannot stop playing now a days.

It is also important to understand that this situation it is hard for everyone, and to have bad days are more than allow! It is fine to have a bad day but it is compulsory to recover!

Read that book that you couldn't, talk to your family and friends, have that coffee with that person (online please!), paint, meditate, try something new!

    Those are my recommendations :)

I hope everyone is keeping safe and healthy!! All the best for everyone!

  • @William Warr Just watched that video. Great work, mate.
  • Meditate, read a good book, listen to your favourite music, cook will be the kind of activities to keep you busy. However, if you feel like taking a step back it's helpful to remember that it's ok to feel overwhelmed and confused.
  • I’ve found creating a routine helpful, Instead of getting up for work I’m getting up and doing a workout something I’ve never found time to do before.
I have always been a bit rubbish when it comes to Instagram but now I’m posting everyday. After my workout, shower and breakfast, I sit down at my dressing table and do a makeup look for a phot or video using products that I had always kept in my kit but never used on myself. I’ll sometimes do 2 different looks. This will take me up until 4/5pm (I hate taking selfies so it takes bloody ages to get the ‘perfect’ picture).
After editing I sit and chat to my boyfriend, we make a meal, eat together, watch a movie and then I go to bed ready to wake up at 7/7.30 for my workout.
Being freelance I’ve never really had a routine and have always loved the randomness of my weeks, I have found however having a routine during this quarantine has really helpful as I struggled a little bit in the first week x
