  • As a motion graphic designer, there's no way of learning quickly... The best way to learn and experiment by setting up unique tasks like how to animate a walk cycle and then look online in google like "How to animate walk cycle in after effects", etc.

Once you built the animation, review your project and how you could improve yourself... For example, label all of your layers in the project as you find it hard to find key layers/assets. Could you simplfy the project because it took forever to render out the video, etc.

These experiences will make you a better person.

Here are some of key resource portals that I use often:

https://www.youtube.com (Lots of free tutorials for After Effects)
https://www.vimeo.com (It has some tutorials for After Effects)
https://library.creativecow.net (Tutorials on different and software projects)
https://forums.creativecow.net (Great forum to ask questions or having any problems that you may have, etc.
http://www.pinterest.com (Surprisingly, you can find some unique tutorials from here.

    Free Services:
    https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials (Basic to advance tutorials)
https://greyscalegorilla.com/tutorials (More advanced tutorials for After Effects as well as Cinema 4D

    Paid Services:
https://motiondesign.school/ (Great to learn the basic of animation)

    Other suggestions:
    https://workbench.tv/tutorials
    https://angietaylor.co.uk/category/tutorials/
[I haven't used these two links above myself but it looks promising and a good start for you?]

Also, it's good to find community of motion designers, where you can ask questions to them about any problems or suggestions.

    Good luck!

  • I would try Mount Mographs Youtube channels, or Ben Marriot. School of Motion is reasonably priced but I think beginner stick to the free youtube one's. You'll get more out of School of Motion's advanced courses and you can learn at your own pace as a beginner with Youtube tuts.
  • @Simona De Leo I can second this - the free Fundamentals on After Effects course they offer is very useful!
  • Hey Justin, School of Motion is probably your best option. These guys cover purposefull motion tutorials, giving meaning to everything they do. For example, once you learned how you move things around you can rationalise why you do it, showing different reasons behind your motion. https://www.schoolofmotion.com/courses
  • Hey Justin, I've used Skillshare for other courses before and dependiing on the teacher they can be great. I've had Jake Bartlett booked on my list for a while. https://www.skillshare.com/user/jakebartlett
  • Hey Justin! Slighlty old school but still super relevant an free: the lengendary Andrew Karmer on https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/
Depends on what you are looking to create, Shool of motion is a great one too.
I learnt with this guy back in the day: https://mattrunks.com/en/tutorials/software/after-effects

    Cheers !
  • Hey Justin, I did this course and found it very useful. It's not free but it gave me a good intro into the software and I was confident to use it afterwards. You can then jump onto youtube to develop your skills further. Also, I did the course at their workshop so I'm not sure what it's like doing it online/remotely, but it should be just the same.

    Hope that helps.

Has free complete beginner course. Very good for starting the basic of after effect! :)
  • Hi!

It depends what you're trying to achieve exactly but a great way to start with some of the fundamentals would be this channel : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSUSgx9qc_NydrOL59xbJIA
