Copywriters: Has there been a book or resource that you've read that has helped with your work?

  • A few:
    – The Boron Letters by Gary Halbert
    – The Gary Halbert Letter
    – Scientific Advertising by Claude Hopkins

  • Real books. Instead of 'How I Sold A Million Widgets On Easter Island', books by the likes of Joan Didion, Kenneth Tynan, Pauline Kael, David Thomson, Luc Sante, Charles Simic and Janet Malcolm (to name a few), ie, real writing, real writers. Also poetry.

    Also, read for pleasure.
  • For me the best resource has been working with a wide range of editors. You’ll find some editors just want to take your piece and fine-tune it themselves, but when you work with someone who’s willing to give feedback and nurture talent it’s the best possible learning opportunity :)
