"Daily Braindump" Nationlise the Youth Written By: Jess Roye

Young people are losing faith in capitalism

A study in 2021 by the IEA showed 67 per cent of young Brits want a socialist economic system. With 75 per cent thinking climate change is especially a capitalist issue and 72 per cent support (re)nationalisation.

There is a history of younger generations not trusting and relating to government but the gap seems even more prominent now with the cost of living crisis, young people's unemployment, the housing crisis, rising tuition fees and, a disconnect on the climate catastrophe and social issues.

With social media and the internet providing us with an abundance of information we now know more. Has caused a greater mistrust in capitalism, governments and, corporations. Can young people can see through empty promises and performative marketing/ activism?

Could this be why young people want to try a fairer, kinder, and more productive economic system?
