Do you agree with the below statement? 'The 2 priorities for the next decade in digital media are creating and automating'

Would love to have your opinions, criticisms and have a general discussion on the above topic

  • @ɐɹoᗡ ɐuu∀ ˥ Hey Anna,

Thanks for your input here and appreciate your perspective on this. This is an idea I've gleamed from a few conversations in a variety of contexts and I kept it open to allow anyone to contextualise it. Completely agree that any statement could be much more granular so this is open to welcome discussion on how this could not be true.

I like your interest in VR/AR and completely agree (This is a great example back in 2019 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFkZjTCxVPc ) And I also like how you balance it between human interaction and not.

The way I would see creation in a generalised context would be an element from where human interaction provides a unique articulation of a thought/idea/perspective, tangible or not. This is specific to something that cannot be automated as it requires an original element (Originality being the key element in the statement)

I would consider creative tools such as platforms, distribution, programs etc as automation - enabling a creative to articulate what they wish with as little 'manual interference', which I would define as workarounds according to lack of tools.

An example would be a musician. Creation would be the original content of the music, and the automation is the use of tools to distribute, promote and monetise etc.

I'd like to see more discussion like this as a way of modulating industries, reminding purposeful integrity and direction in our careers or even catalysing niche areas within processes.

Thanks for your thoughts on this Anna, really appreciate your insight and time

  • Hi Kenny,

first things first it's slightly a generic comment so hard to respond but I would put in place just a few bit.

1 Automating luckily will arrive to creative positions in the very last moment so even if it will be a generic flow in most of professions I wouldn't say will have a thing in media

2 This drives to my second point one other merging thing in the new decade is AR / VR so that will be a thing

3 Creating is such a generic term and almost against of automating as you would expect a human behind creating. Also the word itself can be viewed from so many aspect so yes for sure in some take it can be the next thing in the decade but to having such a statement you should be more specific

    Hope it helps!
