Does anyone have advice for landing a UX/product designer role as a recent graduate with experience?

  • Everything Daniel said, but I would also add that it is highly useful to get someone to guide you and keep you accountable (i.e. coach). This way you will get there 10x faster and have much more fun in the process. I'm happy to talk to you about this.
  • Hey Charlie. Lots of tips.

    1. Get your work into a portfolio. Naturally I think you should post it as projects to your profile here on The Dots but you could also consider your own website or a PDF you share with employers or all of the above. A good portfolio will have 3 or so projects you're most proud of or are most like the work you want to do that presents your projects around challenges/solutions/results. (If you can. As a young designer sometimes that info is hard to come by so a simple summary will work well too).

    2. Get your CV in order. I have a ton of great tips over here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/122JxHvy33_vFXhbpmFO0WRFHYKNEToaafQhaSLN8deU/edit?usp=sharing

Once you've done that be sure to update the rest of your Dots profile to mimic it. :)

    3. Network! I know it can sound scary but recruiters and hirers attend these sorts of events so get out there and mingle. We have a ton of options you can check out in our events section but it's also worth looking into other options too. IXDA, UX Crunch, etc. are all good places to start too.

    Hope that helps.
