Fellow makers, how do you price your art?

I have a good grasp of understanding how to price prints and illustrations. I currently got really into ceramics and I am selling my work on my etsy store: (https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/StudioRaganiai?ref=profile_header). How do you go around pricing your handmade items? Really curious what is the best formula to go by on. Eg. Is it hours of work + materials?
Really curious to find out!

  • @Guoste Kukcinaviciute I'm still new to pricing artwork myself but I would say make up a personal list of factors to checklist through. For your instance I would say take into consideration a flat rate cost for shipping, the time it took you to create the artwork, the cost of producing your items, and how much money you need to make a profit and still have enough to produce your next batch of products.
  • @Guoste Kukcinaviciute yes, that aspect is much easier for me as a digital artist I suppose! I guess you can just make an estimate?
  • @Amelia Duffield Thank you for the compliment and the reply! I always find it hard to price materials that come in bulk or are used for a very long time…
  • I'm a digital artist so my work is a little different from yours (your ceramics are beautiful by the way!) but the advice I've always been given is to work out what you think is a fair amount to earn per hour for your work (at least minimum wage), plus cost of materials, postage etc.
