How is everyone staying optimistic right now?

Roll on that second lockdown....

  • Just being present and not punishing myself. Everything is very out of our control atm, and whilst I feel a difference in my mentality from lockdown 1 and lockdown 2, if I didn’t work out this week, no biggie. Just take each day as it comes.
  • Lots of walks too... I also don't watch the news really at all. I only hear updates via radio, usually Heart FM is pretty cheery, sometimes Classic FM too. I watch a lot of Netflix and FT friends weekly. Best of luck, Jade
  • Trying to remember to take the time to reflect on things I am thankful for. Reminding myself of my goals and what I am working towards.
Staying in contact with friends, encouraging and supporting each other, even if to share grievances, which I find especially important.
  • Definitely reflected on the first lockdown and using this time to take a step back and reevaluate what I really enjoy doing everyday with or without restrictions. Allowing myself to take this time to figure it out alongside trying to do things daily that make me feel good even if it's small.
  • Exercise, but also cake :D
We are fortunate in having a couple of steady clients.
Other than that, I am using the extra time to flog a side project and also turn it into a comic book.
Another side project, repping an actor, is moving forward, since the film he is in just wrapped, in spite of COVID and the difficulties it brought. The stills look amazing, so that is encouraging.
  • Much self care (mainly through exercise)- and taking some time out to read and escape a bit too (Ive re worked my reading list) and if you find it difficult to read, my podcast list is growing too and more digestible
  • Walking, cycling, running, especially when the weather is nice. House painting and chatting to friends, family and associates daily across the fashion and creative industries. Getting back in touch with people is a good way to discover unexpected opportunities. Also being proactive with podcasting which I started in April as a way of building new relationships and showcasing career and brand stories from across the industry.
  • Trying to meditate, breathe, get sun on my fave when I can! Remembering that this too is temporary and at one point it'll be over! Making a list of things I want to do & plan when we're allowed!
  • @Neil Pho that's a good point, I need to up my mindfulness and enjoy the journey. I'll leave the countdown for now! Wishing you well :)
  • Just remember that every day brings new experiences. Know that things that seem bad will pass. Focus on the positive. Be in charge of your own day. Choose happiness. Choose optimism.
  • @Lindsey Moran Don't count down. Remember that you are supposed to enjoy the journey rather than focus on the destination. I vowed to come out of the first lockdown better than I went I, so I focussed on a solo project.

I'm lucky as I have work in other areas. But I do realise that this has been devastating for most freelancers. I've been keeping in touch with people that need it and some have done the same for me. It's a time to make contact with old friends.
  • Maybe not the best approach, but I am eating a lot of cake...... :)
On a more serious note, as well as continuing what feels like a never-ending job search, I'm signing up to a whole load of webinars and free online events, via the dots. Some are career focused and others are mood and confidence boosters.
Also have a mental countdown to 2nd December going on......!
  • Focusing on what I can control.
Reminding myself of how resilient I am.
Making a big deal out of small wins.
Exercise. My mental state would be a mess if I couldn't work out in some capacity.
