How would you approach the creative industry?

I have been out of the loop with the creative industry once I graduated as I was trying to find a full time job after the pandemic so I was just finding my feet again while being a graduate. Approaching the industry can be quite intimidating so I'm looking for tips to approach and connect? Thanks!

  • Hi Therese,

"Go to" events listed here on The Dots to network with other attendees. And if you don't already, connect with people on social media - you'll find the right community by using the relevant hashtags.

  • Hi Therese,

I would recommend to have a refresh in your portfolio before you start to talk with people. Have a think about some new projects, I'm sure things happened with you since graduation that makes you inspired.

After that it really just figuring out the new path you wish to take and applying for jobs, updating Linkedin etc.. Honestly don't feel intimidated if some years past by since you graduated it was a quite challenging period for many and anyone reasonable would get it.
  • Hi Therese, I really feel for everyone who graduated during the pandemic as it was pretty tough out there. That said, things are starting to move again now so if you're really keen on a job in the creative industries I would totally give it another go. Internship programmes are up and running again and people are open to hiring people with no experience. I also think that people are understanding about the way the job market was so I wouldn't worry about having graduated a while ago. I'm not sure what it is that you want to do but I would definitely start to reach out to places that you like the look of and see if they have a graduate programme. Hope that's useful, Tamryn
