I’m looking to learn about Adobe After Effects and Premier Pro. What online classes can I take? And what tips can you offer to a beginner?

  • Skillshare has some great courses to learn AE and PP. You can often find a code for 3 months free via YouTubers like Thomas Flight or Patrick H Willems who make video essays about movies. But if you go direct to their website you can get a 7-day trial to at least check it out!

Otherwise I would suggest shooting a very basic idea on your phone (1x scene, 2x actors talking) and then edit it with Premiere, trying out different effects and ideas on the timeline in order to get an understanding of what it can do.

After Effects can do so much so you want to approach it the same way. have a very simple idea (3D text crash zooming on screen for example) and then watch some tutorials on YouTube to see how to do it.

The key is having a project that you want to make as it will push you to learn the technology in order to hit your deadline or create something you care about!

    Good luck!
  • I started learning after effects myself a while ago (intend to learn premiere pro soon) through skillshare. If you have an account I recommend following classes from Jake Bartlett.

However, if you are still at uni, definitley take advantage of LinkedIn like Jemima advised as its free.

I also recommend looking up Ben Marriott on Youtube. He has some great videos on motion graphics and after effects. definitely give ago at following some of them once you hace learn the basics of the program.

    Good luck and have fun!!!
  • @Alessandra Leone thank you for the insight. Will definitely take this approach in learning the softwares.
  • Through your uni, LinkedIn learning offers courses on AfterEffects, Premiere Pro and other Adobe software.

To give yourself briefs to explore different techniques on AfterEffects and I highly recommend YouTube tutorials as well
