I'm wanting to write a short article biography profiling the career of celebrity TV Broadcaster , do I need to ask their permission first?

The article would be a online start up media publication, who is interested in my idea, they want me to find out if I need to ask permission first to do the article, before they give me the go ahead.

  • I would say to try and get in touch, if anything you'll be able to confirm certain details about their career any way because you'd want the piece to be as accurate as possible. As a journalist, going through agents/managers can be easier than you think
  • @Dionne Boateng hm I'm no journalist so not sure, really depends what you're saying, where it'll be publsihed and if the publication is making money off the article. Would personally at least alert them especially if they're high profile. I wouldn't see the agent as a hurdle per se in contacting them but you would then need a budget for the interview...
  • @Ana Beltschewa I'm not able to get intouch with the person for an interview, the only way to do so would be to go through their agent and ssuch people can be difficult. I'd say I'm rather summarsing the person's career so far.
  • I guess it depends on what you’re actually writing about them but if you’re profiling someone wouldn’t you want to interview them anyway?
