- Hi Ruth, I think @Justin Poulter said it very well. You should absolutely get a portfolio set up and make it easy to find - pick out your best projects that show a range and also the devlopment (how you 'solved the problem'). If you are lacking work, make up some projects/set yourself tasks and just mention on the site that its a speculative project.Familiarise yourself with the styles of various publications, contact art directors, reach out and email - the worst that will happen is no response.Good luck. Don't give up! x
- Hi Ruth,The most important thing about editorial illustration is showing that you can take an often complicated idea and distil it into a simple conceptual illustration that entices the reader and gives them a sense of what the article is about.I can't see any of your work or a link to your work on your profile, so you may be doing this already....I would suggest looking at magazines that use illustration like The Observer, The Economist or The FT to familiarise yourself with how illustration is used to accompany articles.
- A well connected agent, or other route is illustration some articles and tag the company and hope for the best.Example https://www.dutchuncle.co.uk/
