My Design folio may be a bit mad. Opinions?

  • @Robbie Masters Thank you so much Robbie! Yes I don't have a mobile version for my website yet :P I'll get to that as soon as I can. Thanks again <3
  • @Asiah Alsalem sure! So, I’ve had a quick look on my mobile and straight away your work looks very impressive (I especially love the Renaissance-inspired images). I don’t know if it’s something to do with how the site’s adapting to a mobile view, but the text is completely overlapping the images throughout the site making it impossible to read. It’s always worth previewing your site across different devices to avoid errors like this. For that reason I’ve not been able to explore as much as I’d like to, so that’s an essential fix. The only other thing I’d say is the font isn’t super easy to read and doesn’t pair that well with your work. I’d recommend a lightweight sans-serif font and maybe a touch larger, especially for the navigation menu.

    Hope that helps.
  • @Robbie Masters Hey Robbie :)
I was just came across your comment while scrolling. I really appreciated how construtive your feed back reads and the points you've made with Alexander's website. If you've got a bit of time, I'd appreciate if you have a look through mine! https://asiaalsalem.cargo.site/ Thanks <3
  • @Robbie Masters thanks so much for your feedback- I had the same concern ( compounded with the potential to upset my clients should they not see the funny side )
I’ve had some other good suggestions I’ll take on board too, again thank you!
( the nav point is very helpful too)
  • Hi Alexander, hope you’re well. I’ve had a look at your site and I think some of it works well and other elements are a bit chaotic. If I was a prospective client I would worry you’d inject too much of your own personality into the work, which would be fine for certain types of design and could help you stand out, but isn’t ideal for more commercial briefs. Overall I’d bring the principal of ‘less is more’ into the mix. Here are my recommendations:

The home page is looking good, and I don’t mind the touch of humour there. Although I would say it isn’t clear that you can click the logo to find the menu (until you scroll right to the bottom) and would recommend a hamburger.

In terms of the hierarchy, you say email design is your speciality, but that doesn’t come across in the navigation. It might be good to provide some examples or links to case studies on the home page.

For me, the humour in your portfolio pages isn’t working. The site headers are a little too on the ironic side of design, and I would focus more on being playful in the design than in the copy. It just makes it feel like you don’t take your work seriously and in my opinion could be off-putting to a potential client. Why not let your work speak for itself?

    I hope this is helpful!
