Photographers - do you use the 'promote' feature on Instagram to increase the exposure of your work? Is this effective/led to commissions?

  • I've only used it once just to see how it works. I did see an increase in exposure for my account. I agree with @Emma Robinson, it is trial and error. My advice is if you were to try it out, figure out whether you'd want the ad to link back either your insta profile or your website.
  • I would agree with @Bhav Sonigra
Because all it really does is promote what you already have, so once people come to your page, there would need to be a clear understanding of your services.
  • I’ve not used the promote feature but I’ve had some clients use it to sell their product and it seems to have helped them.
It all depends on what you are offering and the target market eg if you are an educator offering photography workshops or a branding photographer offering a branding shoot for local small businesses.
You need to be sure of the service you offer and the target market.
  • Hi. I'm interested in your question too. I have done a very small bit of paid promotion on instagram, really just to try it out, and I did get one enquiry through this, but I think I was lucky to be honest! I think at the beginning there is a bit of trial and error to see what works and you have to be prepared to spend a bit.
  • Up until now, it's not something I've ever used. So I'm not sure how effective it is. Given IG is Facebook-owned, it may be a case of you get what you pay for. The more you pay, the more people you can reach and the more targeted you can make the post when you choose to promote it.
