Rebranding and wanted a bit of constructive feedback on some logo ideas - can anyone help?

I opened Your Forte (PR and Marketing Consultancy exclusively for musicians, by musicians) as a partnership, which I recently dissolved. Want to rebrand and give everything a makeover.

Looking to be fresh, modern, professional, and appealing to all genders and genres of music.

Forte can mean strength, but is also a musical term meaning loud... To play on this, I want to incorporate a triangle (the strongest structure), the italic f for forte, and possibly some sound waves.

I appreciate that logos need to look good in print, and online... Wanted to incorporate some neon effect in, but not sure how that would translate to print...

Any constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • @Paul Farrell Hi Paul,

In summary, from this thread I've learnt:
    - Keep the logo simple (1 concept)
    - Let the graphic do the talking
    - Ensure the logo is suitable for both digital/print
    - Logo should be standout/effective on a variety of platforms
    - Should be ownable
    - Should have personality

Do you have any other tips?

    Thanks, Laura

  • @Ashley Paul Bell It's tough to say - I think if I use it as-is, then yes. The italic f (forte) in music is an easily-recognised symbol; it's one of the first dynamics beginner musicians learn. So, I think the design needs to cleverly incorporate it so that it's recognisable but not a copy/paste.
  • @Laura Jenkins Would you consider the f symbol may of been overused? Unfortunately alot of brands follow trends and end up all looking the same. It's trying to find a way to stand out from the crowd. Ideally you want something that is ownable and gives personality as to what the brand stands for. A logo is only one chapter of the brands story!
  • @Ashley Paul Bell Amazing advice, thank you. I was looking at logo trends for 2020 and could see that graphics are playing more of a role. I love the forte symbol, but feel it needs a bit of "something extra" to make it less classic and make it scream "we move with the times".
  • From a brand point of view keep the logo simple and make the supporting graphics do the work! Nowadays a logo is used on multiple platforms from digital and print. Each having their own way of being creative and effective. Maybe a pattern could reflect the sound waves?
  • Laura, you could use a service like https://looka.com/ Might help with further inspiration/additional ideas.
  • @Tom Bradley Hi Tom, thanks for the feedback, it's really helpful. I don't have a lot of money to throw at this as I'm a one - man-band, so to speak, and I firmly believe in paying people for their skills and time. I don't think I could afford for sometime to do it for me, but would be open to quotes for some further consultation? With the intent being to outsource the design once I could pay them fairly?
  • Hi Laura, sounds like an interesting logo brief. I think you may be looking at three concepts there to begin with and would suggest keeping things simple would give you a stronger visual in the end (rather than incorporating more than one idea within a single design). I like the rationale for the brand name too :)

Are you looking for a designer to help with the branding or are you producing this in-house?

    Tom
