What are your favourite radio shows/podcasts for background noise whilst working from home? (preferably talking, not music)

Hello! I'm looking for radio shows or podcasts that I don't really have to pay attention to, but are nice to have as soothing noise/people talking in the background whilst working from home.

Preferably on random topics away from politics/current affairs and nothing too business/design-oriented (i have loads of these already!).

My current faves...

For life stories:
– Desert Island Discs (BBC Sounds)
– Where Should We Begin?

For art/culture:
– Front Row (BBC Sounds)
– The Modern Art Notes Podcast

For lovely gardening listening:
– Gardeners' Question (BBC Sounds)
– The Stubborn Light of Things
– The Garden Log

Thanks!

  • Great thread... I can reccomend Griefcast (much more heartwarming than you would expect), David Tennant does a podcast with.... and feel better live more :)
  • Please check out
    @360_yourself
“Get in touch with your self talking to brilliant minds across the world”
  • Radiolab is still good, WTF marc maron , revisionist history, Great Woman artists , fortunately, how to fail
  • For just talking, I'd recommend My Brother, My Brother, and Me (MbMbaM), as it's an hour of freestyle conversations among three brothers with a lot of personality.

For something a little more focused, I'd suggest Lore. The subjects vary from week to week but they're all to do with 'real' supernatural (werewolves/ghosts/monsters etc.) stories throughout history. It's well-researched and pretty entertaning.

Or, if you're looking for something more to do with pop culture, Castle Super Beast is a great podcast hosted by two people that work in the games industry. Theyre usually quite long and lean towards video games but the majority of the time it's a lot of banter between two old friends.

Hope you find any of these interesting. Good luck with working!
  • Roman Mars from the podcast 99% Invisible is ASMR in a human being - great for background listening!
  • I have few favourites that I recommend checking:
To The Studio - Conversations with Artists, Writers and Musicians in their studios, hosted by a London based artist David Auburn.
Behind The Bastards - Bad Guys of history presented in rather humorous way
The Tim Ferriss Show - this guy is a genius, interviewing interesting and frequently high profile people and as he writes: "In this show, he deconstructs world-class performersfrom eclectic areas (...) digging deep to find tools, tactics, and tricks that listeners can use"
    Enjoy!
  • For art/cutlture:
Stance, the podcast run by the journalist and curator Chrystal Genesis.
    Talk Art by Russell Tovey

    For life story stuff:
Distraction Pieces podcast by Scroobius Pip.
The Road Less Travelled Podcast by Reggie Yates
    The Adam Buxton podcast
How to Fail by Elizabeth Day

Agree with you on Front Row though, always enjoy listening to that show. :-D

  • Probably very obvious, but I like Joe Rogan and was tirelessly making him my work companion for the past few weeks.
