What are your top tips for a few days in New York? (areas, walks, parks, sights, food, museums, galleries, markets, cafes, anything) Thanks!

  • Just saw this and I was like, wtf? Then I noticed the post was a month old!
  • there are free walking tours that get you to see a different side to the city with a little bit of history thrown in!
  • If you feel like getting a great view of New York (apart from doing a helicopter ride), I would firstly choose Top of the Rock over the Empire State Building.
  • Definitely go for musical lottery! I got to see Cats the first time I tried and I couldn’t stop crying!
  • The Neue Galerie across from the Met is great. https://www.neuegalerie.org
  • There's a lot of development in New York at the moment, so it's a good idea to keep an eye out, e.g. Hudson Yards & The High Line. Also, I was hoping to have a visit to the New Museum - last time I was there - which looks very interesting and unusual.
  • The best way to experience New York is to visit different neighbourhoods and stroll around them to soak up the culture, vibe, sights, architecture, etc. Must-visit neighbourhoods—West & East Villages, Soho, DUMBO, areas around Central Park and Midtown just to see what it's like (defs. not my fav. part of Manhattan)

Food—Rubirosa or Prince Street Pizza (pizza) / Atoboy (modern Korean) / Soba Totto (Japanese) / RAKU (Jap udon) / Good Thanks, Two Hands and Buvette for brunch (scrambled eggs) / Hao Noodle (Sichuan) / WAYLA (Thai) / Morgenstern's is a must for ice cream / SHUKA (Mediterranean) / Cosme (modern Mexican) / Saigon Shack or Pho Bar (Vietnamese)

Cafes—Black Fox Coffee (has amazing Aussie-style coffee) / Bar Pisellino (Italian-style cafe with beautiful pastries and marble tables) / Blue Bottle WTC (floor to ceiling windows) / Té Company (quaint Taiwanese tea shop) / Buvette / La Mercerie / Cafe Integral /La Colombe

Bookstores—McNally Jackson Bookstore / MAST BOOKS or Standards Manual for design books

Museums/Galleries—Whitney / MoMA / The MET / MET Breur (awesome Brutalist architecture, make sure you pop into Flora Bar to check out the stunning interiors too) / New Museum

  • My three favourites.

Do you like musicals?! - https://www.new-york-city-travel-tips.com/ellens-stardust-dinner/

Find a friend who is a member of Dumbo house and checkout the view over drinks, dinner or a date - http://www.dumbohouse.com/

Musicals - It's playing in london but theres nothing better than seeing it in nyc - DEAR EVAN HANSEN!
  • Hey B!

How exciting, NY is so fun!! Here's my tourist take on the city - enjoy :-)

    1. Greenwich Village/Chelsea: Greenwich Village for cute cafes, bars & brownstones :-) The Whitney is a small gallery, easy to squeeze into a  couple of hours - their cafe is delightful. And then you can walk along the highline which is such a gorgeous way to see Chelsea.

    2. Central Park: the Met is my fave but it's MASSIVE. You'll need to dedicate a substantial amount of time to enjoy it. Good news is that it borders Central Park. Which is of course the most magical place for walks and exploring. You'll love it.

    3. 5th Avenue: Kick off at Central Park, stick your finger up at Trump Tower & then head to Moma.

    4. Hospitality: Sooooo many options, here are just a few: Attaboy, Saxon parole, Abc kitchen (go for lunch), Dante, Estela, Nomad, Amor y amargo, Leyenda, Mission Chinese, Dead Rabbit.

    D x x
