What's the best way to get an internship in the fashion industry?

I've just completed my fashion HND and I'm trying to enter the fashion industry. I'm aiming to get a fashion design internship.

  • Fashion Workie is really good for internships and all sorts of opportunities.
Also, I’d recommend sending “open letters” to brands/people you would like to work with. (Don’t know what’s the official name for this). Include your cv, portfolio and a short cover letter why you want to work for them. From my experience, you’ll find jobs faster in this way, as many independent brands don’t post opportunities on job searching sites.
I found all of my jobs/internships in this way.
    Good luck ❤️
  • Depending on the size of company

Large brands - usually list on fahsionworkie, fashion united etc. You can also try to find people on LinkedIn and reach out directly send portfolio links.

Smaller brands - try to engage with them, if their team memebrs are at events, go and interact with them then follow up with emails etc.

Keep trying and keep sending, don't get discouraged with lack of responses, fashion can be such a busy industry that it can be dififcult.

Also as a side plug - I'm coordinating a project atm call Project ReGo and we are supporting participants to get some internships alongside masterclasses - drop me an email if you want to know more cassiequinntextiles@gmail.com

^^ This was really good a few years ago when I was interning. Have a look at some facebook groups - there's a really good one called 'Assistant Stylists' where a lot of stylists post looking for interns/assistants :)

Contacting brands directly with a creative approach sometimes works also! I had a friend that posted out twix's to brands they wanted to work with, with a note saying something like 'Take a break - give me a call on xxx' and another that made a presentation on how to make the perfect cup of tea aha. They both got offers!x
