Why do you feel bootcamp alumni are struggling to find new jobs at the moment?

  • I feel like giving up! The lack of experience is killing me. I have been let down by companies as well.
  • @Eden Whitcomb Oh wow. We had a pretty strong network of hiring companies we worked with regularly, and did a lot of work around helping students to make connections with employers and line them up with opportunities. But even outside of the work we did on the hiring front, quite a few students would get themselves sorted even before graduating. Sounds like quite a different market over there.

As I mentioned we definitely saw a big slow down initially and probably for the first 9 months of the pandemic but things seem to have improved dramatically since the start of the year.
  • @Pete New Thanks for your answer Pete, in Germany specifically we are seeing a big big slow down in alumni hirining with some students I know still not being able to find a job a year on from completing their course!

The school you was running, what were the connections like to the market? or did the students manage to find these jobs on their own?
  • This is an interesting subject. Where are you seeing this? I ran a Coding Bootcamp in Bristol, UK up until very recently. Our latest cohort were all hired within 3 months of graduation.

We definitely saw a slow down in hiring when the pandemic first took hold, but since January 2021 we've seen demand return - not to pre-pandemic levels, but certainly interest in hiring developers is ramping up again here.
