This online seminar will be a continuation of Aether Magazine: Making a Magazine talk series, in which our founder Mia Sakai will share all the tips she knew sooner when it comes to creating with no funding. She will discuss challenges she has faced trying to make it in the industry, especially as a woman of colour from a working class household, as well as helpful methods o implement when starting out.
This will be the second talk of the new season of seminars coming this Spring, so make sure to stay tuned for more upcoming topics. All proceeds from this talk will go directly into the production of Aether so we can continue to provide a print platform for young creatives.
This seminar will be split into two sections:
Part 1: Useful resources, General Tips & Advice
- Where to find communities and networks that will help you along the way
- Tactics that will help you save money on your future projects
- Useful Resources, networks and pages
- Sharing experiences, setbacks and fails - things you need to know!
Part 2: Fashion and Photography Industry: How to Create Editorials with no budget or connections
- How to find locations for shoots
- How to find a team and collaborators for your projects
- How to build and source sets or materials with no budget
- How to get commissioned by magazines
- How to get garments loans from PRs/Showrooms for editorials
There will be 20-30 minutes at the end for further discussion, networking and questions. This event will take place online via Google Hangout on the 3rd of April from 17:00-19:00. You will receive an invite to join the meeting on the day of the event.
