Are you a young person aged 18-25 and want to work in film, TV, live streaming or making online video? Welcome to a programme that breaks down barriers to entry and unlocks opportunity.

This seven-week intensive course in Live TV Broadcast and Film will give you the skills you need to progress in the industry.

The Roundhouse is one of the few venues in the UK with an in-house broadcast facility, bringing our exciting live arts and music programme to screens across the world. Our facilities and professional networks provide the means to help young people gain the necessary experience to start a career in the wider screen industries.

Across seven weeks you will be given training and hands-on experience in film production, camera operating to post production and live editing/mixing, through intensive workshops, guest masterclasses and working on productions at the Roundhouse. You will learn the fundamentals of filmmaking and how a live show is brought to the screen, gaining experience in the production and technical job roles involved.

We’ll wrap up the programme by showing you the next steps for starting a career in film and/or live TV and streaming.

This is a free programme that aims to open up access to careers in film, tv, live broadcast and online media to those who may experience barriers. Attendees will be provided with £10 per day to cover transportation and meal expenses.

WHO IS TEACHING THE PROJECT?
An experienced broadcast director with guest professional filmmakers and technicians supported by staff from the Roundhouse Broadcast & Digital team.

DO I NEED ANY PARTICULAR SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE TO TAKE PART?
We are looking for young people who can demonstrate an active interest in filmmaking or screen production and maybe some experience of creating video, but we don’t mind what tools (software, equipment, media etc) you used or how you did it.

You don’t need to be an expert, if you have an enthusiasm for film, tv and live streaming, Behind the Lens is for you.

HOW TO ENROL
Apply online by Wednesday 3 April, 9am. Shortlisted applicants must attend a workshop on Tuesday 16 April, 2-5pm and will then be interviewed on either Wednesday 17 or Thursday 18 April.

I’M NOT SURE I CAN AFFORD TO TAKE PART…
Attendees will be provided with £10 per day to cover transportation and meal expenses. If you need further help to pay for things like project fees, transport or childcare, we can help. Find out how you can get support. If you are using a bursary to pay for the project, please ensure you arrange this with the Advice Base with plenty of time before the start of the project.

I HAVE ADDITIONAL NEEDS. WHAT SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE?
We are committed to supporting D/deaf, disabled and neurodiverse young people, those with medical conditions, access requirements or any lived experience that may require adaptation, support or sensitivity. If there is anything you would like to let us (our youth workers, tutors or staff) know that will support your enjoyment and access, you can do so by emailing us at advicebase@roundhouse.org.uk, and we will contact you to discuss further how to best support your engagement.
