Ruth Ozeki will talk about her Women’s prize-winning novel, The Book of Form and Emptiness, in the next in our online Book Club series.

The story follows 14-year-old Benny Oh, whose father’s death triggers a cacophony of voices – from the objects around him. As his mother begins hoarding and Benny finds his days overwhelmed with the sarcasm, kindness, apathy and eccentricism of the inanimate items that make up a life, he attempts to find refuge in the silence of a public library.
Exploring profound questions about reality, mental health and loss, The Book of Form and Emptiness was the winner of this year’s Women’s prize for fiction. Commended by judges for its “warmth, intelligence, humour and poignancy,” it is Ozeki’s fourth novel; her third, A Tale for the Time, was shortlisted for the 2013 Booker prize.
This event is part of our online Book Club series, in which the Guardian’s chief books writer, Lisa Allardice, talks to leading writers about their novels and the creative process. They will also be answering your questions.
This event is presented in partnership with the Women's Prize for Fiction.
