Join an afternoon of conversations with some of the Discovered designers discussing the functional and emotional connections to everyday objects.

merican Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and Wallpaper* present Discovered, a global initiative to promote design’s next generation, in partnership with the Design Museum. 20 designers from 16 countries took part in creating a response to the pandemic year using their choice of sustainable woods: American red oak, hard and soft maple and cherry.

In a discussion chaired by Wallpaper* Design Editor Rosa Bertoli, Mimi Shodeinde, Mac Collins and Juan Sierra, part of Discovered’s international cohort of designers, will share local and international influences on their work, reflect on their experiences of being creative during isolation, and speak to the power of design to link individuals.

The pieces are being produced by AHEC’s manufacturing partners and will be unveiled in Wallpaper* and displayed at the Design Museum mid-September.

Speakers:
Juan Sierra
Born in Colombia, Juan met his creative partner Juan Franco while pursuing a masters degree at Elisava, Spain. Since then, they have collaborated on multiple projects focusing on furniture design. Since graduating, Mac has received a number of awards, including the Hole & Corner Cræftiga Prize, and has recently launched a collection of furniture with makers Benchmark.

Mimi Shodeinde
Mimi is a British-Nigerian designer based in London. After finishing her studies in Interior Architecture from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh she started her Design Studio in 2015. She has worked and collaborated on a wide range of projects both nationally and internationally, from interior architectural projects to furniture design, lighting and product.

Rosa Bertoli
Rosa has been the Design Editor of Wallpaper*, co-author of the book 'An Opinionated Guide to London Architecture', and has worked as a content and communication consultant for fashion and design brands. As well as writing for numerous English and Italian publications, Rosa has spoken at several international events and featured on judging panels for the Chart Architecture Award, the Dutch Design Awards and the DesignGuild Marks.
