About this event
In this webinar, brought to you by The Space and supported by Arts Council England, our speakers will discuss:
- how they use digital to make their work
- what opportunities it offers and some of the challenges
- the extent to which digital arts and culture satisfies the needs of disabled people
- how arts and culture might become more inclusive
The webinar will be a mix of panel discussion and Q&A with the audience.
The facilitator will be Barbara Lisicki. Barbara is the founder of Direct Action Network (DAN), and the UK’s first female disabled comedian, and her story was dramatized by the BBC as Then Barbara Met Alan. In her training and facilitation work Barbara supports the development of inclusive practice in the arts and cultural sectors across the UK and globally.

Harmeet Chagger-Khan
Harmeet is a Digital Producer at The Space, where her specialism is innovative content that builds new audiences. Harmeet is also Founder of Surfing Light Beams, a media studio producing site-specific projects and playable adventures.
Al Davison
Al is a comic book writer, artist and studio and comic shop owner, best known for his graphic novel The Spiral Cage, and his work on the IDW Doctor Who comics. Al will talk about Muscle Memory In Motion the multimedia, immersive version of his autobiography Muscle Memory.
Maria Oshodi
Maria is a writer, theatre director and disability arts consultant, whose work is experimental and intersectional. She’s Artistic Director of leading performing arts company Extant. Maria will talk about Extant’s epic multimedia production Flight Paths, inspired by the Goze – blind female performers of medieval Japan.
Zoe Partington
Contemporary Visual Artist whose installations offer visceral audio-visual and tactile representations of Disabled people’s journeys and experiences. She’s also a creative consultant, with a particular interest in meeting the needs of disabled audiences, and an Associate with The Space.
