ECO EXPO

Three local experts will stimulate debate and further our general eco-education.
The slogan of TMS is 'ART SOCIETY NATURE' which is taken from John Ruskin who was an early environmentalist (and 'godfather' of art schools via William Morris.) TMS has always been conscious of its 'ecological commitment' and is devising this experimental get together to complement the ever increasing concerns about and interest in 'the environment'.
We have assembled three local experts to stimulate debate and further our general eco-education:
Park Life Then & Now : Green Space, History and Health in Margate
Prof Karen Jones of UKC will talk about the history of urban parks, globally and locally, with a view to exploring the valuable role green space plays in our daily lives. Be ready to delve into the past of your local green landmark and bring your stories along!
Professor Karen Jones of the University of Kent is an Environmental History specialist with Urban Parks as a main interest on which she has written extensively with 'wellbeing' much in mind. She has also written a biography of Calamity Jane.
Think, Global, Act Local
Dr Clive Nuttman of Monkton Nature Reserve will relate to the Bigger Picture.
Dr Clive Nuttman is a Cambridge biology graduate who runs his own educational programme His field experience is extensive and includes Madagascar. He is currently the manager at Monkton Nature Reserve. He aims to link very local concerns with the Bigger Eco-Picture
Climate Change & All That
Dr Hannah Scott will tell us how Thanet is meeting environmental challenges
Dr Hannah Scott was educated locally at Clarendon Girls and Canterbury Christ Church and gained her PhD in soil science subjects at Greenwich University. After a spell teaching back at CCCU she was recruited by Thanet District Council recently as Climate Officer and will be outlining strategies for enhancing the local environment. She is also keen on Foraging.

Short presentations from local eco-groups updating us on their activities and ambitions and it is hoped to institute regular talks on eco matters as part of the 'community hub' at the old Woolworths.
