EFN Short Film Festival 2022 is thrilled to present the special event "Accessibility: Barriers & Solutions".

A screening of short films that consider accessibility in their production and distribution strategy, and that reclaim the representation of disability, will be held at The Garden Cinema on September 19th.

Following the screening, the filmmakers will participate in a panel discussion about the challenges and opportunities they encountered, and they will share their experiences with the audience.

*The screening will be supported by HOH subtitles and a BSL interpreter during the panel discussion.
*The Garden Cinema is wheelchair accessible.

Films:

1. PESSOA, Dir: Michael Achtman (UK, 2022) 26:00
When an audio describer enlists a blind consultant, he has no idea of the journey she’s about to lead him on.

2. HERE/NOT HERE, Dir: Bim Ajadi (UK, 2022) 29:20
HERE/NOT HERE combines elements of dance, especially Krump and hip hop, with football, BSL and Visual Vernacular, looking at how movement is language. The setting is a run-down space that three different gangs, footballers, Krumpers and VV-ers all think of as their own.

3. CALL US CRIPTIC, Dir: Kyla Harris (2020) 16:25
CRIPtic Arts is an organisation dedicated to supporting deaf and disabled artists, and creating and programming work that is truly accessible to deaf and disabled audiences. Each year they select a small group of emerging artists to develop a performance which is then showcased at the Barbican. This documentary takes a behind the scenes look at the run up to the Barbican show in 2021, focusing on the showcased artists' experiences of ableism in the arts sector and how they're using art to overcome prejudice and inaccessibility.
