Data analytics is not new to the fashion industry, for many years we have analyzed sales data. However, what is new is how much data is now available, according to Bernard Marr, a strategic business & technology advisor, there are 2.5 quintillion bytes of data created each day with 90% of the data in the world generated in the past 2 years. Marco Trincavelli is to share how data is increasingly being used across H&M to inform business decisions and improve business performance. He will demonstrate the role of machine learning and forecasting in securing business success and will share his views on the future of data usage across the fashion industry, highlighting the growing opportunities available to fashion students graduating with an understanding of data analytics.

Marco Trincavelli (Ph.D., 2010 — Örebro University) received both his BSc degree (2003) and his MSc degree (2006) in computer engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy. He additionally received a MSc degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Lund Tekniska Högskola, Lund, Sweden, in 2006. In 2010–2013, after receiving his Ph.D. in computer Science from Örebro University, Sweden, he has been a postdoc at the Center for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems, Örebro University, Örebro, Sweden. In 2014-2018 he has been working at Scania CV AB, designing the perception system of autonomous trucks. After a brief parenthesis at Raysearch Laboratories AB, where he worked on applying machine learning to radiation therapy planning, he started working as Principal Data Scientist at H&M Group GBC AB, where he drives the research initiatives in artificial intelligence. is research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematical optimization, and robotics.
