Legendary photographer Rankin brings together leading thinkers to explore the difficult but crucial conversations around the inevitable – from digital afterlives to death across cultures.

“The fact is, like birth we all have to die. The taboo around it is one of our own making and, therefore, one that we can break down ourselves.” – Rankin

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the subject of death has become more prominent in our daily lives than ever before – and yet we still find it incredibly hard to talk about. This is understandable, but important to overcome if we want to better prepare ourselves and our loved ones.

This livestream event will blend personal stories with emotional, practical, and financial guidance to show that dying well can be a fundamental part of living well.

In partnership with Royal London, photographer and filmmaker Rankin and host Andrea Fox will be joined by Guardian columnist and bestselling author Rhik Samadder, palliative care expert Dr Kathryn Mannix, and financial expert and broadcaster Sarah Pennells to explore their own experiences and answer the more unusual questions posed by dying in the modern era, from how to make funerals environmentally friendly to how to manage online identities after we die.

This livestream event is accompanied by a freely accessible book, curated by RANKIN, with personal essays from the livestream participants and many more. You can find it available to download here.

This livestream event is presented in association with Royal London.
