Are you a rapper finding your voice in a crowded market?

How do you stand out and build a fanbase as a ‘Self Made’ musician?

What does success look like when you take the path less travelled?

Jaykae is your favourite rapper’s rapper – having already gone platinum with Stormzy and Ed Sheeran, released underground classics with Jorja Smith, Skepta, Ghetts, Rudimental and The Streets – and been brought out by Drake at live shows. With 1.8 million monthly listeners (Spotify) and over 300K followers (Instagram) Jaykae is a Birmingham hero of Afghan, Egyptian, Irish and Pakistani heritage – regularly proclaimed as the “essential voice of the city”

Jaykae is also an entrepreneur in his own right – managing Team GB boxer/senior elite champion/4x national champion/British champion & East mids box cup gold medalist Ibrahim Spider, and opened a boxing gym in Birmingham in partnership with the McCracken family (formerly Anthony Joshua’s trainers)

Join us for real talk ‘In Conversation’ from a Self Made success story in the UK music industry. Previous guests have included Rudimental (Amir Amor). The conversation will be hosted by Dan Tsu (Glastonbury Festival’s Rum Shack/Lyrix Organix)

This event is part of our Self Made series for creative industry freelancers and entrepreneurs aged 18-30. This flagship series will inspire you with career stories and industry tips from creative professionals at the top of their game – sharing their journey so you too can build your own ‘Self Made’ career. This event is part of Self Made’s Music Industry season, to coincide with our 6 week ‘Accelerator: Music Edition’ programme.

After the show, there will be a networking event in the bar. A chance to connect with other DIY musicians and creative industry talent at Roundhouse.

About Jaykae:

Jaykae has undoubtedly asserted himself as one of the UK’s biggest rap prospects and finest lyricists, showcasing a now signature storytelling ability to critical acclaim. Originally rising to fame within the grime scene, he followed pioneers like Dizzee Rascal, Wiley and Boy Better Know – topping sinister 140bpm beats with his distinctive, syncopated delivery; more recently he’s gained an enviable popularity for his numerous and diverse collaborations – going Platinum with his feature on chart-topper Ed Sheeran’s Take Me Back to London’ with Stormzy as well as collaborations with Emile Sande and Jorja Smith, plus a who’s who of British rap royalty from Skepta to Mike Skinner.
