On this exclusive Leica photography workshop, guided by renowned fine art photographer Max Milligan, you'll have unrivalled access to the 23,000-acre utopia which has made Alladale Wilderness Reserve pioneers in the world of conservation. Created to restore the highlands ecosystem, over the last 15 years more than a million trees have been planted at AWR. Damaged peatlands have been restored, red squirrels reintroduced, and the site has been an active participant in the recovery of the threatened Scottish Wildcat. Go back in time and see the Scottish Highlands of a bygone era, a time when wolves, lynx and elk roamed the wilderness. Watch as golden eagles soar overhead, and mountain hares chase along the mountainsides. Wake to the mighty bellow of the red deer, and visit the Scottish Wildcat breeding centre to photograph Britain’s last remaining wild felid. Explore regenerating landscapes of stunning natural beauty in a region where wildlife is returning, and learn about rewilding and ecosystem restoration.
Among the infinite activities, traverse the far-reaching mountains and glens of AWR, walk in the most northern stand of primary Caledonian pine forest in Scotland, and keep an eye out for red squirrels and black grouse. Trek through stunning landscapes, search the stony tops for mountain hares and ptarmigan. At this time of year, you'll be able to capture images of salmon leaping the Glencalvie falls, and witness one of the UK’s most spectacular events in the wildlife calendar: the red deer rut.
Back at the lodge spend your evenings going through your personal portfolios with Max, or relax and enjoy the premium facilities which include a sauna, gym, billiards table and a fully stocked library of nature books.
