This two-day drawing weekend – held onsite at the Royal Academy – explores the development of traditional life drawing from history to the present day, inspired by figurative works in the RA Collection.

Starting with the human figure, this course will provide a solid foundation in the traditional techniques of life drawing, inviting participants to engage with the variety of poses the life model offers. Taking inspiration from the Royal Academy’s permanent collection, and from established teaching methods developed at the RA Schools, you will be encouraged to deepen your artistic relationship with the human figure.
Studying both historical and contemporary figurative works from the Royal Academy Collection, this course will explore new ideas, fresh methods and encourage the use of new materials, breathing life and colour into your drawings. A mixture of informal seminars and practical drawing exercises, as well as an exclusive archive visit, will enable participants to find their own form of self-expression and develop their individual drawing voice.
Course tutor David Price works in drawing, painting and printmaking. David is represented by Frestonian Gallery, London and his work is regularly exhibited both nationally and internationally, and is held in the V&A Print Archive. An alumni of the Royal Collage of Art, he studied Fine Art Printmaking, after which he was invited to be a Junior Fellow of the Royal Academy. David has been teaching drawing at the Royal Academy since 2013 and his prints are available in the RA Shop.
