BEDSTRAW + MADDER - FIXING FASHION

Bedstraw + Madder is a new British label making close to the skin clothing starting with underwear.Knickers Meet Nature. Zero Chemicals. 100% Natural Plant Dyes. Always Sustainable. Farming our own regenerative cotton.

Scientific consensus states we have ten years to bring down our global temp to 1.5 degrees, in-line with the Paris agreement, to avoid climate catastrophe. The fashion and textiles industry contributes to 20% of global water pollution.

• How can we eliminate chemicals from our supply chains?

• Should polyester/plastic have a place in sustainable fashion – recycled or otherwise?

• What role does regenerative agriculture have to play within the future landscape of fashion?

• New fabric technology is created everyday: spiders’ webs/mushrooms/banana leaves, but is that enough?

• How can we navigate all the greenwashing to make more sustainable choices for our wardrobe?

• What should we look out for?

THE PANEL

Vanessa Barker - Vanessa founder of Papillon bleu has spent the last 15 years in sustainable fashion production and is passionate about natural fabrics. Primrose, a naturopath and founder of Primrose’s Kitchen believes the same philosophy we apply to our food should be applied to our clothes – our clothing should be organic and chemical free.

Amanda Johnston - Amanda Johnston is curator and consultant at The Sustainable Angle, having curated the sustainable textiles collection and Future Fabrics Expo since its inception. She has a background in design consultancy and education, and has co-authored two books: Fabric For Fashion and Fabric For Fashion: The Swatch Book. Amanda teaches at the London College of Fashion and regularly runs sustainable materials workshops, delivering presentations and seminars internationally, both at industry events and in educational forums.

Holly Rose - is a writer, agroecology soil advocate and land rights activist, attempting to amplify education on regenerative equity through storytelling. Each piece she writes is created with the intention of holistically marrying traditional ecological knowledge, sacred ecology, and regenerative sustainability, in an effort to enhance nature relatedness and encourage relationships of reciprocity with all living things. Holly was born on treaty one territory, in the country now known as Canada, and was raised by her pagan environmentalist mother to honour the earth and its four seasons. She moved to England in her late teens to get to know her British father and brothers, and worked in Fashion for her early 20s before learning of the pollutive and human rights issues within the industry. In her mid-20s she created her own collection of upcycled vintage clothing and clutches created with discarded fabrics. After meeting her husband and moving to Paris, Holly began blogging, embarking on a 365-day series called #GoneGreen2016 looking at every single product she used and habit she had, in search of sustainable and ethical solutions.
