Re-Imagine Self(ie). Exploring New Ways of Selfie Making, Thinking and Discussion. Creative workshop by Maya Amrami

As humans coming into this world, we enter pre-existing social, cultural and political structures. Throughout our lives, we form a sense of self, develop an identity and a subjective perception of the world, part of which we express through images, nowadays especially when connecting with others on social media.

At these unprecedented times, facing isolation, confusion and uncertainty, artistic processes relating to visual articulation of selfhood, offered in this workshop, aim to support and emancipate one’s deep unconscious emotions, anxieties and fears.

This workshop proposes to re-imagine one’s self(ie) through a hybrid approach; digital and analogue and offers an inclusive safe-space for humans of all ages and walks of life to engage with experimental creative image-making.

Re-Imagine Selfie; The Concept

  • A playground-workshop utilising digital selfies in a remote social environment.
  • Participants ARE ENCOURAGED to explore new ways of thought-provoking image-making; playfulness, hands-on approach, destruction and reconstruction of self(ie)/s through a variety of digital and analogue creative interpretations.
  • The workshop highlights the contribution of every individual to the creative tempo. Differences are a valuable commodity!
  • The workshop promotes discussion and reflection on the processes of making selves through images and personal stories as profound and eye-opening experiences both as creators and participants.

Bring along:

  • Your selfie, printed
  • Surface – canvas, large card, cardboard box, A3 paper
  • Glue or Tape
  • Collage materials – magazines, leaflets, scrap paper, letters, posters
  • Adornment materials – paint, pastels, pens, colour pencils, make up, flowers

Makerversity collaborated with umbrella organisation SHIELD to launch SHIELD’s first new 3D printing facility at Somerset House, with support from Farnell. SHIELD partner organisations will be developing new designs for sustainable masks and visors in addition to other critical PPE on a mass scale. As supplies of life-saving PPE run critically low, we need to find a way to make it ourselves. So SHIELD was formed – a collaboration of industry leaders united to create innovative solutions to meet the PPE demand. The Makerversity 3D printing hub is now live, starting to create the supply we desperately need.
