What is a makeshift studio? What can it look like? How can it function? And what are the pros and cons to taking this approach? In this session we will discuss setting up a working space for being creative that is either temporary, nomadic in nature, unorthodox, or on a shoestring budget.

We will also be talking about the impact of changing the creative process, keeping up momentum, plus access to inspiration and support networks when approaching a makeshift studio set up.

Using working artists and creatives as examples, we can look at how others are tackling similar situations and environments, and learn what they find useful or important for their practice in makeshift studios.

Speaker:

Joe Richardson is a multi-disciplinary artist working between painting, video, collage, audio and sculpture.

His recent projects include a solo exhibition at Cine-Window, Winsford, a duo show at FIVE YEARS, 'Pesaro Voeslauer' and a group show at London Lighthouse Gallery. Richardson also has a permanent display of video works available to view in the lobby of Universal Music, 4 Pancras Square (next to CSM). https://www.joerichardson.net/
