Humans are social animals. In order to prosper mentally, spiritually, emotionally - even physically - we need to be connected. It gives us a sense of belonging. It helps us feel safe. Understandably the past year has rattled many of us to the core - being ‘socially distant' from loved ones, workmates, friends, etc. Common reports of stress, anxiety, and burnout amongst workers are all symptoms of people’s human needs going unmet. With this, 7/10 managers flag ‘employee wellbeing’ as their key concern. The importance of connection stretches beyond a person's health however. Trusting and connected relationships breed 'psychological safety'. Psychologically safe team's environments experience higher performance; higher engagement; heightened innovation, agility and retention, to name but a few. A climate of zoom and instant messaging has impacted on people's psychological safety at work. Today roughly 1/3 of remote workers feel disconnected from colleagues and their organisation. With all that being said, 2021 holds great opportunities for organisations. There lies a chance for organizations to return the focus to what makes everything tick - its people. Incorporating the 'human element' of connection into the workplace can not only bolster levels of resilience, but according to experts, it will determine whether teams will survive or thrive this year. If you thought, ’oh I recognize that’ whilst reading the above - feel free to pop along to the 45 min workshop. I will chat about the 'why', 'what' and 'how' of team connection. I will also offer some practical tips to foster real connection to help you navigate the unknown path ahead.
