This two-hour webinar is an introduction to the modest fashion movement in popular culture today and its power to shift perceptions.
While the term ‘Modest Fashion’ only came to prevalence in the mid-2000s, it is no longer an obscure term. The modest fashion market is now worth billions, couture labels and high street brands now offer modest clothing lines and put recognisably Muslim women on the catwalk.
In this webinar led by artist Sara Shamsavari, you will be introduced to her International Veil Series - a global photographic series documenting key innovators and ordinary women who represent modest fashion from Nailah Lymus, the founder of the first Muslim modelling agency to blogger Amena Khan.
The modest fashion movement is a global phenomenon pioneered and represented by young visibly Muslim women- designers, bloggers as well as students, mothers, and entrepreneurs around the world. We will explore its growing prevalence and power in shifting the narrative around minority groups in the mainstream.
