“A beautiful and moving book that proves the redemptive power of art to lift us from our darkest, most isolated times.”
– Katy Hessel
In partnership with The School of Life, Foyles presents the first in a series of events discussing new titles with an aim to educate and inspire.
Publishing in June, Art Against Despair is a collection of images from ancient to contemporary art, each accompanied by a short essay which examines the comforting and redemptive properties thereof. From artists including Edgar Degas, Hiroshi Yoshida, Georgia O'Keeffe and Cy Twombly, each work has been carefully chosen to help with a particular problem that we might face, inviting us to find our way towards new hope and courage.
Lovingly produced and conceptualised as a portable museum dedicated to beauty, Art Against Despair is a love letter to visual art's capacity to connect, console and support. We will be celebrating its release with a discussion of art therapy and the benefits of immersing oneself in works of beauty. Hosts for this event will be announced shortly, and the discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A. Doors will open from 6:30pm.
Tickets: £25 Book & Ticket, inc. a copy of  Art Against Despair (RRP £22) / £8 General Admission
