The film explores the relationship between people, forgotten histories, a changing landscape, and the environment along the river Thames at Greenwich. Once a place of marsh, meadow, gasworks, siloes and steel, this area has seen rapid transformation over the last 20 years and is now home to thriving new communities along the Thames and is one of the largest brownfield developments in Europe.
Paul Wyatt filmed the 75-minute documentary over six years. He said “Time and Tide” is a moving and poignant collection of people's own reflections and histories with a once industrial shoreline and landscape. We discover how art, objects, and words can both connect us to the past and tell us about lost stories.”
Featured are mudlarker Nicola White, fellow artists Peter Kent and Remiiya Badru, as well as historian Mary Mills and members of Greenwich Yacht Club.
“As Greenwich continues to develop, much of the everyday reminders of its industrial heritage on the foreshore of the Thames are being erased or eroding over time. The film is a powerful exploration of this moment in time.” (Laura Boon, Royal Museums Greenwich)
As the pace of change accelerates and remnants of the industrial past fade from view Paul Wyatt’s film captures voices at a time of immense change and transition and uncovers scraps and figments of the past that paint a reflective and emotional portrait of this quietly historic shoreline.
There will be a short Q&A after the screening with filmmaker Paul Wyatt and some of those featured in the film (subject to availability).
