The Photography Foundation was created to provide pathways to professional photography for less advantaged young adults in London by offering education, practical experience, and routes to a career in the creative industries.

For many young adults in London, a lack of financial resources, opportunities or industry connections means that a career in photography is out of reach. We believe that talent and motivation should be more important than who you know or where you come from, and it's our mission to make this a reality.

This is why we've launched TPF TALKS a monthly networking & learning space which will begin on Zoom, eventually moving to our studio in Shoreditch once covid restrictions ease.

TPF TALKS will be a platform that amplifies under-represented voices to encourage the next gen of photographers and creatives to be part of the conversation, build their networks, and create space for themselves in the industry.

We know the difficulties that people face when trying to access a career in the creative industry, and these are often followed by a lack of representation across the industry as a whole.

For this reason, TPF TALKS will amplify the voice of a different under-represented group every month. We'll be discussing barriers to entry, dealing with imposter syndrome, and exploring ways we can build a more representative industry for all.

The first instalment of TPF TALKS will take place during Pride month, so we will be amplifying the voices of the Queer community and folks that centre the LGBTQIA+ community in their work.

We will have a panel of photographers and industry professionals discussing Queer representation in photography, whilst sharing their experiences and advice.

This will be a space where people can ask questions, network, and support each other to grow in the industry.

The Speakers:

Bella Okuya will be facilitating this conversation. Bella is TPF's Head of Foundation and a London born and based photographer and educator, with a socially engaged documentary approach and a curious portraiture practice.

Alia Romagnoli is a freelance photographer and art director currently based between India and the UK. She focuses on fashion and portraiture photography, which has been published on platforms such as VICE and Vogue. Her personal practice has explored a variety of subjects ranging from narratives within the LGBTQIA+ community as well as South Asian stories both in and outside of the diaspora.

Callum Leo Hughes is a British visual artist based in Berlin. Working with a combination of his own photography and found imagery, his work explores desire and the malleability of images. His work also pays close attention to the way in which photographs respond to each other with a focus on atypical printing methods.

Anjum Mouj is an unconscious bias trainer who has worked across a huge number of organisations, from museums to the NHS. She is a trustee for leading LGBTQIA+ charities including Queer Britain, a charity working to establish the UK’s first national LGBTQIA+ museum & Imaan, the UK's leading LGBTQIA+ Muslim charity. Anjum is driven by activism, justice and equality.
