Come meet and celebrate the inspirational storytellers and makers involved in the Traces: Stories of Migration project!

About this event
On the evening of 15th December, join us at The Lab E20 for a first look at the textile artworks created during the Traces: Stories of Migration project.
Exploring the experiences of communities affected by migration, the Finissage will showcase artworks by the participants of the project, including first, second and third-generation migrants, visual artists, textile practitioners and writers. Marking the first time their work is presented in public, there will be an opportunity to hear from a range of people offering migration stories that have been informed by the process.
Acclaimed international artist Lucy Orta will also present some of her textile portraits of the participants who have shared their journeys during the project.
And if that's not enough to get you excited, tech-for-good nonprofit Give Your Best will be joining us to exhibit a one-of-a-kind painted canvas, created at their Good Fashion Show in September. Some of the models, that are also part of the GYB community, will be sharing their stories and telling you more about their experiences of migration.
Celebrating creativity, conversation, and community, we'll have a DJ on hand to get the party started, and drinks and nibbles will be available throughout the evening.

About Traces: Stories of Migration
Traces: Stories of Migration is a community art project delivered in collaboration with Making for Change, led by Lucy Orta. The project explores the experiences of migration and the memories accumulated as people journey from one place to another.
Drawing from the migrant history of the East End rag trade, the project shares personal stories of migration across East London through the creation of textile-based artefacts, building on burgeoning sustainable and socially inclusive textile practices developing in the area, as well as elsewhere in the UK.

About Give Your Best
Give Your Best is a tech-for-good nonprofit offering the first online platform where people and brands can donate women and children's clothes online so that refugees in the UK can shop them for free, with the choice and dignity they deserve. GYB is on a mission to tackle clothing poverty while improving circularity in the fashion industry and empowering people affected by displacement.
