Join Eileen McCarney Muldoon and Olaf Willougbhy for this online participatory workshop exploring the concept of Transcendent Photography.

Overview

Transcendent means, “going beyond, surpassing or exceeding ordinary limits.” And that’s exactly what this workshop aims to do for you.

The workshop takes place over 4 separate days in a 2-week period, September 13th, 16th, 20th, 23rd. The concept of creating transcendent work is divided into Intent, Emotion and Risk. Each of these is the subject of a separate day’s specific shooting accompanied by writing. So that on the final day, you will have a body of work, comprising both images and writing which tell the story of your explorations in letting go and creating refreshing new work.

Whether you are photographing to an impromptu theme or developing an existing personal project your creative spirit will soar as you delve deeper and deeper into your unique artistic vision.

Participants will expect to learn:

Over the course of 4 workshops students will learn how to plan and shoot a project around the concept of transcendent photography. You will be shown how to utilise the process of pre-shooting a project through writing and journaling that will allow you to plan out the story of your own photography. Students will have the chance to decide their own shooting theme for the workshop or to continue an ongoing project.

Three different assignments will be set out over the course of the workshop with each session focusing on a different subject. Participants will be shown examples of work that fits this subject and will be given guidance on how to work to their own brief, this will include both practical and theoretical guidance. Following each session, you will be asked to shoot a small project around the subject for review in the following session.

The last session of the workshop will include a group discussion on the projects each participant shot over the course of the two-week period and will include an opportunity for everyone to discuss their experience and the new ideas they explored through the concept of transcendent photography.

Requirements of the participants:

Each student will be asked to submit a selection of 6 to 10 images for review in the first session that demonstrate their photographic interests. For each subsequent session, students will be asked to submit 6 images and a small piece of writing.
