Under the Covers is an illuminating series of talks in which Ella Berthoud, bibliotherapist and co-author of The Novel Cure: An A-Z of Literary Remedies puts an author, artist or person of note onto the couch, and asks them all about the books that made them – what they read as a child and a teenager, what they read now - and all about their lives and what they have just been writing, painting or performing.

Join Ella in conversation with the women’s prize for fiction nominee, Claire Fuller - author of Unsettled Ground. Claire is testament that it is never too late to pursue your ambitions. Having earned a degree in Sculpture from Winchester School of Art, Claire pursued a successful career in Marketing, finally coming to write prose when she approached forty. Claire’s multi-faceted career has contributed to her rich, powerful writing style, which expertly explores the truths closest to us that are often hard to see.

‘Fuller's prose is darkly elegant, her eye for character astute and humane, and her sense of place vividly atmospheric - here is a writer of great skill, sensitivity and subtlety’- Lucy Atkins.

The House of St Barnabas is a charity whose vision is to create a future where lasting work is a reality for people affected by homelessness and social exclusion. Participants in our Employment Academy are given work placements throughout our not-for-profit members' club, enabling them to gain valuable work experience in a vibrant, inclusive and culturally driven space and City&Guilds awards in Hospitality or Business and Administration.

The club is an adult-only space except for Saturdays when children are welcome until 7pm.

Regrettably, due to the nature of our building, there is limited disabled access. There is some information available on our website, but please do email contact@hosb.org.uk for any further detail.
