Visions is a renowned showcase of moving image, digital and performance art, showing every other year at the Nunnery Gallery.

Offering an informed overview of the provocative and quick-changing mediums of moving image and performance, exhibition works are selected from across the world to be shown along side three lead artists: Hetain Patel, Nye Thompson and Benedict Drew. All drawing on the unique possibilties of digital art, the work of Patel, Thompson and Drew will galvanise the 2020 exhibition, which promises to be a meaningful and telling exploration.

Please see https://bowarts.org/nunnery/visions-in-the-nunnery for full artist list which will be announced shortly, following selection from the international open call.

Bolton-born and London-based Hetain Patel is the 2019 Jarman Award winner and known for his beautifully shot films and resonating performances, which look to connect marginalised identities with the mainstream in an effort to destabilise notions of authenticity and promote personal freedom.

Technical innovator Nye Thompson is celebrated for her often weird and unsettling work, as she pushes the boundaries of digital art by creating data-generating artist software systems to explore the often hidden impact of new technologies. For Visions she will show a new work commissioned by The Lowry’s WEEK 53 Festival, /artefact, which virtually builds a colossal dividing wall on the un-walked territories of Mars.

Film-maker, composer and sculptor Benedict Drew's immersive, energetic works of sound and vision are surreal and probing, often commenting on current political and environmental issues. Drew has also helped select the works from the open call for his Visions programme.

Visions 2020 is selected by artist and long-time Visions curator Tessa Garland, Bow Arts Director of Arts & Events Sophie Hill and artist curator Kamila Kuc. More about Visions

Bow Arts hopes to reopen the Nunnery Gallery with Visions 2020 with appropriate social distancing and health and safety measures in place following a closure due to the covid-19 crisis.
