For the fourth event in this strand, actor Amara Karan and director Virginia Gilbert will be joining our host Keira Malik to discuss the importance of a good working relationship between actors, directors and producers to achieve a creative vision.

They will cover casting, pre-production and how to work well with one another on set. From both the director’s and actor’s perspective they will each reveal the skills that they have learned along the way to get the most out of the creative process, the important of a director’s vision and how each of their roles on set work together to achieve this.

Amara Karan, Actor
Amara’s career debuted in Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited, she starred opposite Simon Pegg in Fantastic Fear of Everything. Her credits also include St Trinian’s, All in Good Time and John F Donovan.
Amara’s US breakout was The Night Of (HBO). In the UK, she’s known for the central Detective partnership to James Nesbitt in Lucky Man (Sky 1). Other TV Credits include Dr Who, Poirot and West End Theatre credits include Much Ado About Nothing, Taming of The Shrew (RSC).

Virginia Gilbert, Director
Virginia Gilbert is an award-winning, BAFTA-nominated writer and director. Her debut feature as writer-director A Long Way from Home was nominated for the Michael Powell award for Best British Feature and was released theatrically by Soda Pictures.
She is currently developing various feature and television projects including Travelling Companion, based on her debut novel, supported by Screen Ireland and original television drama series Sweetheart.

Keira Malik, Director and Producer
Keira’s work lies in films that raise discussions and awareness of social and political issues as a call to action. Keira works in drama and factual, she has produced award winning documentaries for BBC, C4 and most recently, since moving to Bristol, on the Emmy award winning Our Planet Halo series for Netflix with David Attenborough.
