Job Description Summary :
The Account Manager (AM) will have an overview of the whole account, utilising their established communications skills to drive the day-day account handling and project management, whilst providing direction, support and coaching to more junior members of the account team. The AM will be expected to expand their media knowledge to identify new opportunities, whilst proactively challenging and contributing to client handling activities and playing an increasing role in strategic input.

Core Responsibilities
Account Management
  • Day to day management of tactics/projects comprising communications programme
  • Manage and motivate the junior team to ensure objectives set are achieved to the highest possible standards
  • Provide junior team with clear and accurate project briefs and delegate workload accordingly
  • Provide constructive and timely feedback to team on work set
  • Highlight any training and development needs of junior team to Line Managers
  • Regularly update client on progress and any changes to ongoing account activity
  • Ensure timely response by team to client enquiries
  • Continue to develop and manage third party relationships
  • Ensure all written communication is of the highest quality (good grammar; spell-checked)
  • Demonstrate ability to up-manage members of senior team to help them make best use of their time by involving them where appropriate but also taking own initiative to progress work to sufficient level before requesting their input
Client Activity
  • Maintain and manage regular contact with clients and advise on necessary programme changes/external issues
  • Manage the preparation (agenda, hand-outs, liaison, team presentations) in client update meetings
  • Question and challenge clients when required
  • Identify opportunities for organic growth with existing clients
  • Develop knowledge of the internal environment in which clients operate – demonstrate an appreciation of the challenges they may be facing in their role relative to where HSO can help
Communications (PR, Advocacy and Medical Communications)
  • Start to increase strategic overview of account, advising clients on new issues/external environment and contribute to strategic planning meetings
  • Develop thorough knowledge of the media across a number of different sectors and be able to advise clients on appropriate targeting
  • Initiate and develop relationships with relevant industry experts and opinion formers, leveraging these within campaign activity where appropriate (incl. knowledge of most quoted/influential KOLs or HCPs)
  • Maintain and strengthen own personal media contacts through regular and targeted briefings
  • Continue to develop and input into communications and media strategies for client campaigns – take a lead role in development of annual communications plans
  • Participate and contribute to the generation of creative ideas & platforms
  • Generate content for different platforms and audiences (Medical, media, client, social, etc)
  • Oversee the development and implementation of media relations activities e.g. press events, conferences
  • Fine tune writing skills, proficiently preparing and reviewing key press materials, correspondence and client information, as well as drafting more complex written materials, i.e. proposals
  • Support senior team members in the preparation and delivery of presentations and new business proposals
  • Take an active interest in competitor activities and provide counsel in relation to any significant developments
Financial Management
  • Assist senior team members to ensure realistic setting and meeting of client deadlines and budgets
  • Assist with budgetary control (put trackers in place, begin to take responsibility for monthly forecasting/reconciliation, ensure accurate estimates and invoicing)
  • Review budget status at all times working to ensure account profitability and minimal over-servicing
Industry Awareness
  • Continue to develop an understanding of the NHS/international health systems and broader health environment, applying growing knowledge towards the implementation and development of client and new business programmes (UK and global)
  • Build knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and internal/external environment
  • Keep updated on new developments within the healthcare industry
  • Keep updated on the ABPI, PAGB codes and MHRA and other regulatory bodies that impact on client business

Level of Experience
  • Account Manager or Senior Account Executive experience within a comparable industry
