Job Introduction

BBC Three makes a range of experimental and innovative content created aimed at 16-34 year olds. Since our launch as an online brand, BBC Three has been a multi award-winning pathfinder for the BBC and the wider industry, experimenting with new and unique ways of telling stories across different content forms and formats and with the means of distributing this content to young audiences in the places they are consuming content.
BBC Three content can be found on iPlayer and BBC One as well as across social platforms. The quality of the content has been recognised by audiences and the industry, winning awards such as RTS Channel of The Year, Broadcast Digital Channel of the Year and BAFTAs for shows like This Country, Killed By My Debt, Fleabag and People Just Do Nothing.
It is committed to developing new talent in front of and behind the camera and finding distinct, diverse new voices representative of the whole of the UK. The ambition is for BBC Three to be braver, more provocative and more of the moment than any other part of the BBC, producing content which is uniquely close to its young audience, honed to their passions, locality and life experiences.

Role Responsibility

For the Talent Pool we are looking for highly skilled self-shoot and self-edit Assistant Producers. You will work with other content creators to deliver original, experimental and innovative digital content for BBC Three.  The role will focus on returnable factual entertainment formats for the iPlayer platform (e.g. Hot Property, Heartbreak Holiday), relevant for a young (16-24) and digitally savvy audience.  You will also contribute to the development of new output and finding and developing new emerging talent. You will be involved in generating and researching ideas for programmes and pitching for commissions, ensuring effective planning and production of specific content on multiple platforms. You will manage the production and editorial tone of original material in the form of video and imagery. As well as creating taster and pitching decks.

Are you the right candidate?

In order to be considered to be part of our Talent Pool  you will have a full understanding of BBC Three’s Audience and Brand: a passion for developing new and innovative content and the ability to translate that passion into day to day work and relationships with others. You will be an expert in self-shooting and self-editing for multiplatform production, with a demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the wider digital industry. Excellent technical and creative knowledge and a good understanding of how social media can be used to increase reach and engagement is essential.  You will also have sound editorial judgement and the ability to evaluate interactive content and digital output effectively. You will also hold a clean UK driving licence to enable you to work independently on external shoots.

We are looking to develop a freelance Talent Pool of Assistant Producers at BBC Three.
Appointees from the pool will be deployed into suitable Freelance PAYE opportunities with BBC Three.  Appointment to the talent pool does not entitle candidates to a staff contract in the BBC, those will have to be applied for in the normal way, and neither does it guarantee work.
